General Information |
|
The beans of this plant called St. Ignatius bean, are in fact seeds from the fruit of a small tree native to China and the Philippines
Spanish missionaries in the Philippines were introduced to the seeds by the locals who wore them as amulets to ward off disease
Small doses of the seed can produce mild but unpleasant symptoms of poisoning, including in salivation, pounding headache, cramps, giddiness, twitching and trembling, large doses can be fatal.
Homeopaths may prescribe ignatia, a dilute solution of the seed, for ailments that include symptoms like those associated with mild poisoning.
For the homeopathic preparation, the seeds are collected and ground to a powder, then mixed with alcohol
When the powder is saturated, the mixture is strained and diluted until it becomes a nontoxic substance.
